Almost 400 people have already come forward to take part in flagship City of Culture event, The Return of Colmcille. But we need double that, say Walk the Plank, the outdoor arts experts who are producing the event, which takes place on 7th- 8th June and will be partly staged on the River Foyle – with technical and marine support from Foyle Port.
Foyle Port is also sponsoring the event, which is to be a celebration of the iconic patron saint, Colmcille and the city. Volunteers need to give a couple of hours a week to rehearse and also need to be available for dress rehearsals on 1st and 2nd June. They are mainly needed for Rehearsal The People’s Procession, a colourful representation of many of the chapters and characters in the city’s history which will take place from 9pm on 8th June.
The parade will include monks, GI’s, and Spanish Armada soldiers – to mention but a few and volunteers can choose from a range of roles: wear a special costume, learn a dance routine, or help move floats around. If you would like to get involved, click here.
