Buncrana-based quilting business “The Fennel Shed” is to feature on this Friday’s Nationwide programme on RTE 1 at 7.00 p.m.
“We just heard that the programme is going out right after the main evening news on Friday Nov 29th – the same evening as the Toy Show on the Late Late,” says owner Gaye Grant. “We are delighted to be in such exalted company,” she exclaimed.
Gaye opened The Fennel Shed in 2001 and offers classes, workshops, fabric, materials and online sales to a growing number of quilters at home and abroad. “We are SO excited. Since the Nationwide piece was filmed a number of weeks ago, we have been so busy, attending shows in Dublin and Belfast, and running a great mix of Autumn Classes and Workshops.”
“However, the single most exciting development is a huge upsurge in bookings and inquiries for “Sew North” 2014. This 10-day celebration of stitching and textile craft was run by the Fennel Shed for the first time in September 2013. Word has spread, and to date we have requests and bookings coming in not only from within Ireland, but also from groups and individuals in the UK, Holland, Switzerland, France and Spain, while a major tour operator, based in Canada, is preparing a package that could bring as many as 300-500 quilting visitors from North America to our shores for the first time.”
“Is it any wonder that our heads are in a spin”, says Gaye, who adds that there will be no let up as they head into the New Year. The Fennel Shed hosts classes and workshops – and even quilting Hen Parties – throughout the year, and new classes for beginners start again in the middle of January 2014. “The schedule of workshops and events for Sew North 2014 will be available to book from Friday 30th Jan 2014, but anyone can become a Sew North Club member to receive an advance package of deals and discounts,” says Gaye.
